Friday 6/12/2026 Long Day 75 miles – couple of detours … One on the park of BAK but one on our part missing the turn off right out of the gate…. off we went, actually out earliest time yet .. BUT we took the right highway but all the way to the wrong highway …. plugging along we began wondering if we were on the wrong route – yes we are often last but we usually see SOMEone – nothing. We were trying to figure out the most efficient way to return to meet up with the route we needed when we stopped to save a turtle trying to cross the road. Got him safely across though he was moving pretty fast and I had to run – running in clip-in bike shoes is not easy- but got it done! Off he went into the safety of the grasses. A kind couple of workmen in a truck stopped to see if we needed something and helped us get beck on track but letting us know the best ways to get to Cherryvale – we would have ended up on Coffeyville KS … NO!!! So we saved the Turtle and the Turtle-saving saved us!!!!a great misadventure.

too tired to write last night -in Independence
off to eat spaghetti ! finally – it was great – Independence KS music and food . then walked around Main Street a bit – The whole Main Street area seems to be on the historical registry – 1870’s and upward into maybe the 1930’s. Such a rich history !!
